Pep Guardiola said his side did not panic after Newcastle United attempted to stage a late fightback at the Etihad Stadium.

The former Barcelona boss cut a cool and composed figure after the 3-1 win over the Magpies then stated he was looking for 10 more wins from his players to lift the title.

For Newcastle , it will be a nervous finish to the season as they remain engulfed in a relegation battle and hover just above the dropzone.

After the game, Guardiola said: “It was important how we reacted at 2-1, we didn’t panic.

“It’s not how many goals you score, it’s how many chances you create, it’s how many chances your keeper has to save.”

Guardiola is now hoping his team stay strong and finish the job in the title race and, speaking to Match of the Day, he said: “We need 10 more wins to be champions, and we’ll try for more points.

“We face these kind of teams – Southampton, West Ham, Bournemouth, who play with the 5-4-1, that’s why it’s so important to attack this kind of team.”

Meanwhile, Sergio Aguero - whose goals proved the difference once again in this fixture - said after the game: “We’re really happy with the victory. “We needed it after last week. It’s a long season though and we’ve not won anything yet.

“We need to keep going and pushing on to the next game.”

And speaking about his first goal, he said: “Of course it was my goal - I think it touched my hair. It’s mine, sure, 100%!”
